8 Common Types of Acne

Think that there is one type of acne? Think again. There are many different types of acne from infant acne to tropical acne. The general term “acne” is sometimes referred to as acne vulgaris. Let’s take a look at the different types of acne classified under acne vulgaris. There are eight different types of acne vulgaris.

Acne Type #1: Acne Detergens…
This type of acne is a result of washing your face too much. It is tempting to wash your face often especially if you have oily skin. However, over washing backfires in that your skin can become dry. The dry skin flakes off and attaches to sebum which plugs your pores. Stick to washing with a cleanser two times per day.

Acne Type #2: Acne Cosmetic…
Some people are sensitive to the grease in cosmetics such as makeup, lotion, shampoos, and other cosmetic products. If these products give you acne then look for cosmetics that are dermatologist tested and proven not to plug pores.

Acne Type #3: Acne Mallorca…
This acne is the result of spending too much time in the sun. The sun speeds of sebum production and increases sweating. Both of these factors contribute to clogged pores. Stay out of the sun if you want to avoid this type of acne.

Acne Type #4: Acne Excoriee…
This type of acne preys on people that constantly pick and poke at their face. No matter how small of a blemish they pick their skin which creates even more acne. This acne is part of a psychological disorder. If you suffer from this type of acne then you need both physical and psychological help.

Acne Type #5: Acne Mechanica…
Do you play sports or use workout equipment? This type of acne is the result of the sweating and irritation caused by tight sports equipment such as a chin strap. Tight work equipment can also be to blame. This acne can be relieved by placing an absorbent pad on the equipment along with a skin care regimen.

Acne Type #6: Acne Medicamentosa…
This acne is the result of certain medications. Drugs that might worsen acne include Dilantin, Lithium, cold medications, birth control pills, and steroids.

Acne Type #7: Infant Acne…
Yes, even infants can experience acne. Sometimes it is referred to as baby acne. This type of acne stems from hormones that were passed to the fetus by the mother before birth.

Acne Type #8: Chloracne…
This is a rarer form of acne. This type of acne stems from being exposed to motor oil or pesticides on a continual basis. If you have this type of acne then you should have the rest of your health checked as you may have been exposed to harmful pollutants. The only way to reduce this type of acne is to minimize or eliminate your exposure to motor oil and pesticides.
